Ferrocarril

The old Medellín Station of the Antioquia Railway was designed by architect Enrique Olarte L, and built between 1907 and 1914 in the heart of the city in French neoclassical style

Its design features large galleries and its ornate façade, which have been restored to preserve its historical appearance characteristic of the time.

In addition to being a milestone in the architectural history and progress of the city, the old Medellín Station became the first large dry port in the city where coal, coffee and machinery for companies arrived, and from which fabrics and toys left. to the towns of Magdalena Medio and Southwest Antioquia.

Since 1996 it has been considered an asset of Cultural Interest and is located at the intersection of Calle 44 Avenida San Juan and Carrera 52 Avenida Carabobo. This spectacular building currently houses a wide commercial offering, in addition to being the headquarters of the Antioquia Railway Foundation where old locomotives, wagons and objects related to the history of the railway in the region are exhibited. It is an ideal place to learn about the historical and cultural importance of rail transport in Colombia.
