Palacio de la cultura

The Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture is an architectural beauty that adorns the center of the city of Medellín. Its design and construction began in the 1930s by the Belgian architect Agustín Goovaerts, and it was only declared a National Monument until 1982.

For many years this imposing Flemish Gothic architectural jewel was the epicenter of the departmental administration, given that the Government of Antioquia functioned there, which is why it was initially known as the Government Palace. It is currently the headquarters of the Institute of Culture and Heritage of Antioquia.

It is located on the southeastern side of Plaza de Botero and next to the Parque Berrio metro station at the intersection of 52nd Street and 51st Street.

It receives its name as a tribute to Rafael Uribe Uribe, an outstanding national leader in the public sphere and in his practice as a lawyer, soldier, diplomat, writer, politician, journalist, and businessman. The life of this leader is the central axis of the permanent exhibition located on the first floor of the Palace, and which allows us to learn about his contributions to the development of the country in topics such as social security and workers' rights, culture, technicalization of activities of the agriculture, integrity of the territory and good international relations.

The building offers an unmissable panoramic view of the center of Medellín and additionally has the Historical Archive of Antioquia, the Hernán Restrepo Duque Departmental Sound Library, the Carlos Castro Saavedra Departmental Library, the Musical Documentation Center, the Artistic Heritage Room, the Gallery of Art and the Departmental Sound Library and the Hernán Restrepo Duque Musical Documentation Center.
